Army Catering Corps Golfing Society
This is a vibrant, friendly and successful society with around sixty members. The Society is always looking to attract new members, which is open to all former ACC and serving or retired RLC chefs. The Membership Fee is £15 per annum. Society   is   in   the   fortunate   position   of   receiving   a   grant   from the Royal Logistic Corps Trust Fund which in its turn received the balance of the Army Catering Corps funds in 1993 on amalgamation. The Society plays up to five matches against other military teams and holds four major competitions during the year, as well as a four day tour and a match "The Bone of Contention" played against the RAF Caterers Golf Society, this year won by the ACC. Additionally, the ACC Officers' Club has a fixture against the Worshipful Company of Cooks of London in August each year. Eligibility for this match is membership of the ACC Officers' Club. The 2021 match was played at South Winchester Golf Club and a closely contested match was won by the Officers’ Club. The "Duff Cup" was presented at a dinner held in Worthy Down afterwards. The 2022 match is scheduled for Friday 5th August at the same venues. For details about the Officers Club and membership please see the The 2022 Society Captain is Joe Beaver, and his Vice-Captain is David Fox . If you wish to join the Society or you want information on the 2022 four day ACCGS Yorkshire Tour please contact Geoff Acott. For information on any subject please contact Tony Monk. As for everyone the last two years have been a challenge, just to go about our daily lives and to try to live life as normally as possible. As for golf, well it ceased to become important until we gradually emerged from lockdown in 2021 and people returned to normality half way through the year. As far as Society golf was concerned we lost the Spring Meeting and the REME match but managed to reschedule the rest of the calendar starting with the Society Championships on 21st July, won by Eric Lewis returning to the Society after some time, a great golfer and good to see him back. However, the Society continues to flourish with several new members and returners boosting the numbers. Society Committee President: Allan Cochrane , Chairman: Graham Smith, Majors Secretary: Tony Monk, Match Secretary: Mike Bell, Treasurer and Tour Organiser: Geoff Acott assisted by Mike Webster. Society Captain for 2022 is Joe Beaver with David Fox as his deputy, congratulations and good luck to them both for a successful year ahead. Terry Reddings (right) hands over the Society Captaincy for 2022 to Joe Beaver. Terry raised £500 for his charity Parkinson's UK and Joe has chosen The Down's Syndrome Association charity for his year. Retirement of Geoffrey Hawkins Society   President   Allan   Cochrane   presented   an   engraved   wooden   casket   with   two   bottles   of   Geoff's   favourite   red wine to mark his contribution to the Society. The inscription reads: "Presented   to   Geoffrey   Hawkins   recognising   his   50   years   in   the   ACC   Golfing   Society   culminating   in   his   retirement   as President in 2021. His leadership and example much appreciated by his many friends." Allan   then   went   on   to   read   a   couple   of   anecdotes   sent   in   by   well   wishers   and   Geoff's   record   of   achievements   since   he joined    the    society    in    his    teens,    before    presenting    the    casket    along    with    a    copy    of    his    achievements,    and    the memories   sent   in   by   his   friends.   This   was   an   emotional   moment   for   Geoff   as   he   recalled   his   time   in   the   Society   and the   many   friends   he   has   made   along   the   way.   Geoffrey   Hawkins   was   made   an   Honorary   President   of   the   Society   and will be welcome to join us for as long as he wishes.
